“Socially responsible” can mean different things depending on who you ask. For some firms it means focusing on doing business with other green companies. Doing business with other green businesses is a cool way to create a “green economy” and support the development of green eco-safe products.
For other businesses being “socially responsible” means avoiding business relationships with firms that have earned a bad reputation as polluters. The same principal often applies to companies with a reputation for exploiting workers in poor countries where there are no labor or environmental standards.
There’s also a school of thought that measures socially responsible firms in terms of sustainability, a term that also has different meanings to different individuals. More about these differences soon…
